In a time when the Censor Board was actively clamping down on creative expression, Patil took issue with films that glorified violence and sacrifice as a woman’s fate. Despite her views, Patil’s own life was far from perfect. Riddled with contradictions like her relationship with the already married Raj Babbar, her controversial views on the exploitation of South Indian actresses, and her wish to experience motherhood ‘naturally’, Patil also stood in the moral grey.
